Kids' Classes
We at Golden Eagle Martial Arts realize that children today are faced with many, many tough decisions at a younger age than when we were growing up. Drugs are more prevalent and easier to obtain today than ever before. There are gangs in every High School (Yes, even your local High School as small as it may be).It seems as though our children have more opportunities for failure than success these days. We, at Golden Eagle Martial Arts, want to do everything possible to change that; to provide opportunities for children to succeed in all areas of their lives.
Martial Arts training helped me to concentrate and stay focused (as I was diagnosed with ADHD* at a young age) on my schoolwork, homework, and any project that I started I was more apt to finish. My instructors taught me to set goals for myself and to follow-through and complete them, then to immediately set new ones. With less idle time I had less time to find trouble to get into. I revered my teachers as father figures, in fact, in Chinese Martial Arts there is a proverb that says “Once your teacher; forever your father”. They always motivated me to be the best I could be and to never settle for the mediocre, “barely get by” mentality.
At Golden Eagle Martial Arts we teach our “Tiger Cubs” (7-11 yrs.) how to be strong both inside and out, how to say NO to drugs and strangers, when to fight and when to run. Most importantly, we re-enforce the morals that their parents teach them at home. We have NEVER had students who bully others and NEVER had any student who was unable to defend him/herself in a physical confrontation.
Prayerfully, the values and skills our kids learn now will remain with them for the rest of their lives. In 1972, when I began my Martial Arts training (at age 8), inspired by Kung Fu the TV series, I had no idea that I was beginning a lifelong journey that, even today, continues to inspire and encourage me to be better and better at whatever I undertake. I am thrilled to be able to effect and change young hearts and lives the way my teachers changed mine. -- Steffan de Graffenried
